Things are winding down in the Children’s Room – the clamoring crowds of kids waiting to get their reading logs stamped have thinned out, books are returning to the library by the dozen, and the phrase “back to school” is wafting on the breeze.
But it’s not over yet…
Now that “real” summer weather has finally arrived, it’s time to celebrate the amazing young readers of Mill Valley with an awesome party. It’s our chance to thank the community of friends and families that has made the library their go-to hangout this summer. This year’s End-of-Summer Party happens on Friday, August 23 from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. in the Peter Dreyfus Garden (just below the library) and in the beautiful redwoods surrounding the Old Mill Park Amphitheater stage. It’s a great opportunity to meet your friends and neighbors and let the kids frolic in the forest. We’ll have hula hoop lessons with Cherry Hoops, face painting, crafts, bubble juice, and free ice cream for all the kids. This year we’ll even have a smoothie bike, which will allow the athletically inclined to use pedal power to blend refreshing fruit drinks, a no-doubt messy but fun experience. Children’s Room staff will be on hand to serve ice cream, supervise activities, and get your feedback on our summer reading program.
Whether you’re a library regular, an occasional visitor, or someone who’s been on a desert isle all summer, please come celebrate with us! Don’t forget to check our End-of-Summer activity schedule, with movies and games running through August 26. Kids can continue to pick up prizes and get their reading logs stamped through the beginning of September. By then they’ll be ready for our wildly popular Bookmark Design Contest, open to kids from age 0 – 12. Stand by for details.
