Q: What do I need in order to use the Library’s databases or downloadable econtent?

A: You will need your Mill Valley Library card # (all 14 digits) and pin #. If you do not have a pin #, you can come in and set one up in person, or, if you have forgotten your pin #, you may reset it online.

Q: I am not a Mill Valley resident, but I have a library card for a Marin County Library. Can I access your databases?

A: You can access some of our databases–we subscribe to a number of databases as a MARINet consortium, so databases such as EBSCOhost, Legal Reference Center, Novelist, Consumer Health Complete, and others, are available to all Marin County residents through our elibrary portal. However, there are some databases which Mill Valley Public Library subscribes to on its own; these databases are only available to patrons living in the 94941 zip code (your library account must reflect this). If you do not live in the 94941 zip code, you can contact your home library to find out which databases you have access to.

Q: I know my pin # and my library card #, but I still can’t access any of the databases. What’s wrong?

A: If you have entered your library card # and pin # correctly and still cannot access the database, it could be that:

  • your library card is expired
  • you are trying to access one of Mill Valley Public Library’s databases which requires you to live in the 94941 zip code (see the above question)
  • there is something wrong either with our library’s link to the database or the database website itself.

Please call the reference desk at (415) 389-4292 x4740 and we will be happy to assist you.

Q: What happens if my library card is expired?

A: You can come in to the library or call the reference desk: (415) 389-4292 x3 so we can update your contact information. You will keep your same library card and same library card # and pin.

Q: What happens if I do not know my pin #?

A: If you have never had a pin # associated with your library card, you will need to come in to the library to set one up. If you have had a pin # but have forgotten it, you may reset it via email here.

Don’t hesitate to call the Mill Valley Library Reference desk: (415) 389-4292 x3 or email reference@cityofmillvalley.org and we will be happy to assist you.
