Fact #42: In 1942 and 1943, Mill Valley's Librarian Miss Elizabeth Reynolds was the director of the local Victory Book Campaign, part of the national drive to collect books for soldiers, sailors, and marines. The campaign was sponsored by the USO, the American Red Cross, and the American Library Association. Mill Valley residents were urged to donate "books a man would like to read, scientific, technical, detective, and western." The campaign collected over two million books nationally.
