Fact #46: "The Robot in Your Library" was the title of an announcement in December 1941. The Mill Valley Public Library installed a Gaylord Charging Machine that automatically checked the books out and stamped the due dates. Patrons had to re-register and get new cards that had a brass plate carrying the card number, "resembling somewhat the charge plates used in San Francisco stores."
