A collection of photographs of Warm Springs Beach, the Mountain Theater, Muir Woods National Monument, Tamalpais Conservation Club, two portraits, and views of Mill Valley and Mt. Tamalpais in the late 19th century and early 20th century.

Nancy Skinner is a Marin County resident, hiking and history enthusiast.

 

Scope and Content Note

This collection contains photographs of Warm Springs Beach, the 1929 Fire, a hotel, a saloon, the Mountain Theater, a ferry in Richardson Bay, Muir Woods National Monument, Mt. Tamalpais and Muir Woods Scenic Railway, Tamalpais Conservation Club, two portraits, and views of Mill Valley and Mt. Tamalpais in the late 19th century and early 20th century. Some photographs are undated.

          Description: Three photographs of Mt. Tamalpais during the July 4th-6th 1929 fire.

     Subseries 2: Ferries
          Description: One undated photograph a ferry in Richardson Bay.

     Subseries 3: Public Lodging (Hotels, Inns, Guest Houses, etc.)
          Description: Three undated photographs of Constantino de Cello and his hotel Summit House, one of the West Point Inn cabins ca. 1920-1924, and one of Mountain Home Inn ca. 1946.

     Subseries 4: Mountain Theater
          Description: Three photographs of the Mountain Play ca. 1938 and one of the construction of the Mountain Theater ca. 1936-1937.

     Subseries 5: Mt. Tamalpais
          Description: One photograph of the Ridgecrest Toll House and Gate after 1922, four of the Wheeler and Pipeline Trails 1902-1929, two undated photographs of the fire lookout and observation station on the summit, one view of Mt. Tamalpais ca. 1948, one of the World War I monument near West Peak in 1919, two of the Tamalpais Conservation club cabin at Bootjack ca. 1930, and one of Rock Spring Junction after 1929.

          Description: Two photographs of Elsa Reeves and family and friends on Mt. Tamalpais ca. 1923, one of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Kelly and Mr. and Mrs. Alonzo Coffin in 1893, one undated of William Kent, and one of railway workers ca. 1914.

          Description: Two photographs of the saloon Joe's Place after 1931, one of a Sierra Club reunion ca. 1925, and one of John Muir at Ben Johnson's cabin ca. 1910.
